Grateful Dead Fare Thee Well - Chicago Day 3 - Show

Good morning friends and fellow grillers everywhere!

So who knew? Knew what you may ask? Who knew that by simply loading up a truck with some grilling gear an idea and a boat load of passion and driving 28 hours round trip to go and see one of the most iconic rock n roll acts of all time that the flood gates of creativity would open up on an idea that I have been in the midst of crafting since July 1/15.

As some people know the idea and movement is called “RU-Grateful” and the six day tour at the beginning of this past month called “A Grateful Pilgrimage” had myself and two friends travel to Chicago IL in an attempt to feed some hungry people, see a couple of epic shows (that were incredible to say the least) and most importantly launch a fundraiser for the Cheo Hospital here in our Nation’s Capitol!

All this while initiating, in my humble view, a very important question and discussion of gratefulness and gratitude. Essentially I’m attempting to raise as much money by Oct. 1/15 as I possibly can.

On that note there will be new updates and official announcements on a few things as it it relates to the current tee shirt campaign as well as cash donation possibilities made to the Cheo Hospital after this long weekend is behind us so thank-you to everyone who wants to donate and get in on this because its pretty cool, ESPECIALLY the draw prize which I will get to in a second!

Suffice it all to say that while I was down in Chicago taking in the entire scene and seeing the shows there were other hours in the days that saw us grilling piles of food for some really needy people. It was truly fascinating getting to know these people in whats probably one of the most unique and bizarre parking lot scenes to ever come out of the last fifty in this thing called rock n roll!

While I grilled and prepped food I found myself thinking really hard about my lot in this life and more importantly how I could simply pay it forward going forward for many a great cause under the moniker of “RU-Grateful” after this current campaign and push comes to an end in the coming Fall once my party season starts to ramp down.

As my thoughts came and went it occurred to me over the coarse of the three days we were in the windy city at the wonderful lyrics and music the band had created over the years and all the art and time and pure passion they all put into their craft for fans such as me.

Obviously it makes good sense that due to the fact Chicago was lit up in everything and all that is The Grateful Dead why wouldn’t I get inspired?

So what’s the catch here some of you may ask and why donate to this cause? It’s simple. I am putting up an “Ultimate Grateful Griller Party Experience” for 50 people worth approximately $9500 and by purchasing a tee shirt or making a cash donation at a minimum of $20 to Cheo you are automatically entered to win this prize on Oct. 2! It’s that simple and its that great a cause!

The prize includes my team and I on location in your back yard, office, cottage or where ever we need to be, a kamado cooker, all food, all beer, knives, cutting boards, accessories for your cooker and the list goes on and on and on! It’s not your average door prize and I also have a collector’s item pair of Grateful Dead skis that I am in the midst of trying to get the band to autograph in order to make them that much more special as a keepsake!

The other cool thing about this little idea that I’ve realized since going and coming back from Chicago is that I will be able to drop this idea of gratefulness into so many worthwhile causes going forward through my party experience because there are plenty that I am determined to get involved with.

Hunger in Canada and homelessness will be my next missions while I drive this idea forward but first, my focus is on this incredibly important hospital right here in O-Town!

As I sign off on this post friends here’s a few lines I want to share from one of my favourite songs called “The Wheel” and it blew me away on July 3 to hear it performed live for the first time in my life!

Keep feeding your fires at all costs!

The wheel is turning and you can’t slow down
You can’t let go and you can’t hold on
You can’t go back and you can’t stand still
If the thunder don’t get you then the lightning will

Won’t you try just a little bit harder
Couldn’t you try just a little bit more?
Won’t you try just a little bit harder
Couldn’t you try just a little bit more?
